轉述期望、意圖和承諾
在轉述一個意圖、期望或承諾時，我們會用適當的轉述動詞接帶有 would 的 that 子句，或是接不定詞子句。用在這種句型的動詞包括：hope、promise、threaten、guarantee 和 swear。要留意一點，當使用的是 that 子句，that 這個字就可以省略，如下列第一個例句。

| "I will not tell anyone your secret" he said. |
He swore that he would not tell anyone my secret. 或 He swore not to tell anyone my secret. |
